It's been over 100 years since the industry became truly mechanized and it astounds me that the industry has become so fixated on the next "Greatest Handpiece Ever Made" or "The New Improved Comb & Cutter" that recognizing the shearer's body is still the most important piece of equipment has been lost somewhere along the line.

In my early shearing years, I made a name for myself as a Gun Crutcher setting an Australian Record in 1988 full crutching 1570 weaner weathers in 7 Hours,13 minutes & with that territory came aching hips & persistent leg pain.

To cut a long story short I designed a rope that reduced the amount of upper body pivoting and both problems disappeared!!

Another pet hate of mine is the modern version of the humble shearing singlet...

100% synthetic fibre because it can be produced and screen printed like a bloody billboard for peanuts, then charged through the nose for. It's just a pity that synthetic fibre is absolutely brilliant at raising body temperature while it's ability to absorb and wick away perspiration to accelerate the body's natural cooling ability, is near enough to zero!

The marketing message for these singlets should read: "Buy a singlet and we'll throw in the muscle burn and dehydration for free!!"
